History for the Preservationist:

In our research we found the Yorktown pattern produced by Bailey Walker in Red Maroon and Purple pre-1942 and 1942 both on an Ivory body. We also found on RWCN the Yorktown pattern from 1953 in Teal on White.

On May 9, 1923 the Bedford Herald newspaper reported Albert M. Walker, of Akron, and Henry Bailey, of Cleveland Heights had incorporated the Bailey Walker China Company, with Mr. Walker as president of the company, and Mr. Bailey as vice president and general manager. The operation would be conducted at the former location of the Bedford China Company.

BAILEY WALKER CHINA COMPANY

An advertisement in the 1924 Bedford Directory stated that Bailey-Walker manufactured “Vitrified China, Hotel Ware, White and Underglazed decorated, for Hotels, Restaurants, Clubs, Churches, etc.”

The company grew in size and in the variety of products. In addition to normal dinnerware, the company produced many commemorative plates and a number of specialty items. One such item, a “Spirit of 76” statue was produced about 1926, and is now located in the Bedford Museum.

In 1939 the product line was expanded further with the addition of vitrified china for tea rooms. A feature article in the Cleveland Press on June 14, 1941 included the Bailey-Walker China Company on a list of 13 large diversified industries in Bedford and Bedford Township.

WALKER CHINA COMPANY

In 1942 the name of the company was changed to The Walker China Company. Herbert M. Walker, a second-generation Walker, became vice-president, later to become president of the company. Herbert’s son, John, the third generation, later became active in the sales department.

Shipping

We ship most items USPS PRIORITY MAIL whenever possible which includes $50 of insurance. If you want additional insurance convo us and we will make arrangements. Note that USPS now charges between $8-10 extra if a package is marked FRAGILE. If you want to pay extra for a FRAGILE mark convo us before making the purchase. Books we ship via USPS MEDIA MAIL and insurance is an option if you convo us before making the purchase.

Item Descriptions

My reputation is very important to me, so I take special care in describing and photographing each item and its condition in detail. These are antique or vintage items, NOT NEW so some wear should be expected. After all, many have had a long and happy life.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Most of our items are double wrapped in bubble wrap, surrounded by 2 inches of plastic peanuts, placed in a USPS priority box and the closures double taped. The possibly of fragile items breaking in transit is very low, but it can happen.

At this point we do not offer gift wrapping.
