Vintage And Working Seth Thomas Ship Bell Clock 4 1/2 Inch Face In Heavy Brass Case 7 Jeweled 8 Day 115A Movement with Key

$570.00

Description: Vintage Seth Thomas Ship Bell Clock 4 1/2 Inch Face In Heavy Brass Case 7 Jeweled 8 Day 115A Movement. I received this clock from a gentlemen in Seattle, WA. He said it had come from a Coast Guard Buoy Tender that had been decommissioned. There are a few etchings on the reverse of the clock case that may be federal inventory numbers, but I have not been able to prove this.

Condition: Used, vintage. Working and last serviced in 2017. The casing is made of brass and retains the patina it was found with. There are various scrapes and signs of use on the casing. The face of the clock also has patina and has been cleaned. The inside of the casing and movement have areas of tarnish and oxidation. The brass and glass bezel is a screw on type and is a little tricky to get threaded on the casing. Its starts off loose but does thread on securely. There are a few dents along the outside edge of the bezel.

Marks: Seth Thomas 115A - Not dated but believe circa 1930s-40s. Pre-WW II

Approximate size: 4 1/2" diameter clock face.

History for the Preservationist: The Seth Thomas Clock Company began producing clocks in 1813, and was incorporated as the "Seth Thomas Clock Company" in 1853. The company manufactured clock movements for the Self Winding Clock Company from 1886 thru the early 1890s, in addition to its standard offering of longcase clocks, mantel, wall, and table-top clocks.

On May 7, 1926, Seth Thomas Clock Company filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for trademark protection of the Seth Thomas brand with regard to clocks. The trademark was granted with a registration date of October 12, 1926 and assigned registration number 0219268. The trademark is still active as of the last renewal date of February 17, 2017.

In 1968 General Time Corporation, consisting of the Westclox and Seth Thomas brands and the Westclox operation in Canada, was acquired from Talley Industries. Westclox Canada was the only company that came close to matching the production of Canada's leading clock company, The Arthur Pequegnat Clock Company.

Seth Thomas Clock Company was later owned by the Colibri Group. The company ceased operations on January 16, 2009, and went into receivership, but returned to business as of May 4, 2009, under the ownership of CST Enterprises in Cranston, Rhode Island. No manufacturing is underway, however an entire line of Seth Thomas Clocks is now available made by another clock builder for CST under the Seth Thomas brand.

Most of our items are double wrapped in bubble wrap, surrounded by 2 inches of plastic peanuts, placed in a USPS priority box and the closures double taped. The possibly of fragile items breaking in transit is very low, but it can happen.
